Travel
Demand Modeling, Kane County, IL
Regina
Webster & Associates was retained by Intersect, LLC, to perform
Travel Demand Modeling for the Kane County Road Impact fee program.
Using VISUM modeling software, RWA developed a sequential
transportation model to forecast private vehicle trips in the
region. The model will be used to evaluate different roadway and
land-use scenarios to identify optimal road improvements. The
modeling activity involved the conversion of the Kane County 1996
TRANPLAN model to the VISUM format. The model was then upgraded and
re-calibrated in the VISUM environment and validated for the base
year 2005. The components of the model included trip generation,
trip distribution, demand network assignment, and travel time
feedback. A volume-delay study was also performed. A forecast model
for the year 2015 was also developed to determine the need for
improvements within Kane County to obtain an acceptable level of
service on County roads over the 10-year planning horizon. The VISUM
model will provide the County with a mechanism to determine and
assess impact fees for future developments.
