Road Traffic Analysis, Orland Park, Illinois
Regina
Webster & Associates worked with McDonough Associates to conduct
a traffic analysis of the La Grange Road (US 45) corridor from
Interstate 80 to 135th Street. The purpose of the traffic analysis
was to determine the current and future level of service in the
corridor and to make recommendations to improve the level of
service. These recommendations could be geometric improvements or
traffic management and signal coordination improvements.
Twenty-year forecasts were developed from land use plans and
coordination with CATS. Synchro traffic signal timing software was
used to perform the analysis of the corridor, which included 16
signalized intersections, many of which are spaced less than 800
feet apart. The results of the study were presented at a public
meeting. As part of the scope of work, a license plate survey of
vehicles traveling along the corridor was performed to determine the
proportion of local and non-local trips. Over 11,000 license plates
were recorded. Peak Hour manual turning movement counts were taken
at all the intersections and machine counts were taken to determine
Average Daily Traffic along the route.
