Metra Parking Inventory/Assessment

Regina Webster & Associates was retained as a subconsultant to Knight Infrastructure to provide traffic data collection services to complete the inventory of all Metra Commuter Rail station parking facilities. The inventory was designed to provide information for the improvement and expansion of the commuter parking facilities at each commuter rail station in the system throughout Cook, Lake, Will and DuPage Counties. Among the major categories of information collected were: lot capacity, lot utilization, fees by payment method, existence of use restrictions, availability of other commuter amenities, ownership and maintenance responsibility, physical characteristics of lots, and physical conditions of lots. Using hand-held computers, RWA performed inventory and license plate surveys for parking facilities at over 200 Metra stations. RWA field technicians also conducted interviews of the parking lot customers to obtain additional data. As part of the scope, existing maps of the lots had to be updated, and data on lot size, area and usage revised. The project finished on time and under budget.
